Shire horses are the world’s largest horses. These giant horses can measure more than 2 metres in height! With a maximum weight of more than 1,200 kilograms and 1.78 metres at the withers, the calm Shire horse is the largest breed in the world. The Shetland pony is named after its home, the Scottish island. Raw weather conditions and a lack of food in this region has developed the breed into an extremely robust race. This race was able to prove its strength in mining and farming which was much appreciated. Today Shetland ponies fullfil a whole range of tasks. They are presented at horse shows by adults and children, are used in petting zoos and as guide horses and present tricks at fairs. These ponies are good-natured and intelligent and can be thirty years old. Fun fact In relation to its size, the Shetland pony is the strongest race of horse and can pull double its own weight.

In the Tinker are the mighty Shire horse, the powerful Clydesdale, the majestic Friesian and the sure-footed Dales Pony. These were bred by travellers to the UK and Ireland to make for a strong and sturdy pull- and workhorse. At the same time they stayed very much on top of the horses characters. Every day, they need 20–25 kg of grain with minerals and vitamins, and around 50–60 kg hay. Needless to say, this makes them thirsty – very thirsty, in fact.
